turning up by surprise
with both hands carrying
unexpected good news
which, once delivered,
begins to exist inside you
like illuminating sunlight
low on the horizon, so
bright that things which
felt like disqualification
become invisible, dissolved
into flares of unleashed joy.
And you think: “It’s almost
absurd that something this
good, this bright, this
rhythmically re-creative
could just show up with
nothing more than a broad
smile trespassing on gloom,
politely refusing payment
or dues.
Nothing is more exuberant
than the way generosity
sneaks up on us, light upon
light erupting.
