Thank You For The Chair

inside my soul
and its hard, sturdy
invitation to sit with
my own problems
instead of running away
into a wide open horizon
of busy, swirling things
that are always dazzling,
important, and endlessly
urgent.
Thank you for the simple
elegance of uncomfortable
stillness that stilts up space
for the difficult listening
that is necessary to grow
stronger and taller in matters
of good sense and humanity.
Roaming is in my bones,
but there's something more
reclining at the core.
